I came across a great idea on the USB Blog titled “What’s in a name?” and began thinking about the names of the students in our school. There are many students within the same year or class that have the same name or one that sounds very similar. I thought it might be interesting to investigate the origin of the names of students in the class.
Task: Investigate your name by answering the following questions:
- What language did your first name originate from?
- What does your first name mean?
- Are you named after someone in your family?
- Do you know anyone famous that has your first name?
The following websites might be useful:

Are you going somewhere exciting in the holidays? Maybe you are just staying home. Every day there are amazing things that happen around us, even in our homes and backyards but sometimes we are so busy that we never take time to notice. These holidays I would encourage you to raise your awareness, open your eyes, be alert and find something amazing, something unusual, something funny or even something sad, take a photo of it and email it to me with a short comment, explaining what the photo is about.
As I will be posting your photos, make sure that, if your photographs are of people, you have permission to upload their photos onto the interent. If you do not want the photo uploaded on the internet, let me know when you send it to me.
Have a great break. Rest, read and re-energise for a busy Term 3.
Mrs J.

The Post It competiton is finally over. Thank you to all those students who participated in the competition and contributed to the class blog. As well as receiving merit certificates for your efforts, you also had an opportunity to improve your writing skills and learnt how to access and use your school email accounts. However there can only be 1 winner . . . well in this case 5 winners.
Congratulations to Nada, Rania, Yasmine, Aisha and Celina who produced pieces of writing that were original and creative in thought, well edited and neatly presented.

Salam Allaikum, Yiasoui, Chow, Salamat Datang, Bonjour and Gidday are all different ways in different languages of saying hello. So, what is multiculturalism? Here’s a hint. Look at all the students in your class. You will instantly realise that they all come from different cultural backgrounds and they all follow different religions.
The word Multiculturalism means that we are all Australian, regardless of our place of birth. Multiculturalism means that we all have likes and dislikes and we all have advantages and disadvantages.
Multicultural day is one of the most enjoyable days at our school. This year we had a mufti day, entertainment, music, food and many performances. Multicultural day was held this year on June 19. Many people came and enjoyed themselves. It’s was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed.

My colour is dark as the night
Sky.
My colour sounds like storms on a rainy
Day.
My colour is as evil as the
Grim Reaper.
My colour feels like a touch of
Death.
My colour tastes like dark, bitter
Liquorice.
My colour smells like cold and lonely
Darkness.
What is my colour?

What do think Sally should do?
Sally just wanted a new experience. After all her future was laid down in front of her like the red carpet under Beyonce Knowles’ feet. First was finishing high school and then it’s off to university. Both her parents had big expectation from a young girl. They planned her whole life. She couldn’t even make her own decision when buying a pair of shoes.
Sally had trouble making her own decisions. That’s why she had problems answering Ana when she asked her if she wanted a cigarette. Sally knew it was the wrong choice if she agreed to take one . . . But she wanted to take a risk this time. Forgetting about what her parents would think of this.
“So what’s it going to be? You want a cigarette?”

Construct a short piece of writing that would be suitable to post on your class blog. The writing could be a:
- narrative (poem, story)
- procedure
- expostition (letter)
- recount
- discussion
- report
The writing:
- must be written in MS Word
- should have an interesting title
- must be edited for correct spelling and punctuation
- must be your original work
- must have a copyright free image/s to accompany the text
All writing should be emailed to Mrs J. by Monday 22nd June. No late entries will be posted.
The class will then choose the 3 best posts, based on interest and originality.

Challenge 8 of the Blogging Challenge asks you to think and write about an animal you would like to seen in its natural habitat, i.e. in the wild rather than in a zoo. You might like to do a search and find some useful websites that show your chosen animal in their natural environment. National Geographic for kids and BBC Wild are 2 websites I found that could be useful when exploring animals in the wild. Leave a comment on this post with links to any websites you have enjoyed reading about animals in the wild.
